Make a Difference For Our Children: Join the Million Father March

ImageMore than 500 cities have signed up for the 2011 Million Father March!

This year, we are asking one million fathers and men to take their children to school on the first day in their city.

The Million Father March has grown out of recognition of the power of male involvement in the education of Black students. A father who actively participates in the educational and social development life of a child is invaluable and irreplaceable. A 2004 summary study by The Parent Institute showed that at schools where teachers reported high levels of outreach to parents, reading scores grew at a rate 50 percent higher, and math tests scores 40 percent higher, than in schools where teachers reported low levels of outreach.

Additionally, we are requesting a commitment of 10 volunteer hours of service at their children's or their neighborhood school(s) throughout the coming school year for our children and our nation.

It all begins with a short walk to your neighborhood school and a person willing to organize that short walk.

The 2011 Million Father March is managed by The Black Star Project, U.S.A., sponsored by the Open Society Foundation's Campaign for Black Male Achievement.
