Abolitionist Writer, David Walker Was Born On September 28, 1785, In Wilmington, North Carolina, To A Free Mother And Enslaved Father.

Walker Demanded That America Give Blacks Respect And Equality Or Risk A Possible Race War He Asked: "Will you wait until we shall, under God, obtain our liberty, by the crushing arm of power? ... Will it not be dreadful for you?... I speak to Americans for your good."

Three Editions Of The Controversial, 76-Page Pamphlet Were Printed It Was Widely Distributed In The North And Secretly Distributed In The South. Whites

In Reaction To The Content Of Walker's Appeal, Southern Whites Armed Themselves In Anticipation Of A Slave Revolt. In Addition, Laws Against Teaching Blacks To Read And Write, Were Passed And It Became A Capital Crime To Possess Treaties Calling For A Slave Insurrection.

On June 28, 1830, Not Long After A Reward Had Been Offered For Him, David Walker Was Found Dead Near The Clothing Store He Owned, Possibly Having Been Poisoned.

In Order For Black History To Live, We Must Continue To Breathe Life Into It." -- Hubert Gaddy, Jr.
