Heard of HARO?

Posted by bamgibbs in Untagged

If you're someone looking for media exposure, there's no better place to turn than HARO. I think what Peter Shankman has done with the HARO site is nothing short of phenomenal. But Peter can only do so much. He can get the word out for you but then it's up to you to do the rest.

This brings me to the purpose of my blog post today. A few months ago I put out a request for panelists for the Second Annual Social Media Summit (sponsored by BAMMedia. I was inaundated with emails from all over the country and Canada. That's a good thing, however, what was disturbing to me was the fact that some

The Challenge of Raising a Black Male

Posted by bamgibbs in Untagged

My daughter returned to college this week after a three week holiday break. Having her home gave me a much needed vacation from her three-year-old son.

But now I am wearing the mommy/grandma hat again and dealing with a growing, inquisituve and challenging little boy. At three, he is now starting to test his limits and testing my nerves.

This means he is beginning to defy authority and assert his growing independence. Everything I've read indicates I should recognize that this is a developmental stage. Frequent eruptions and disobedience can be a sign of a strong-willed child, the experts

Where Have All of the Prospective Husbands Gone?

Posted by bamgibbs in Untagged

Did you know that 70 percent of African-American women and 51 percent of Hispanic women are currently unmarried?  That's according to an article in the New York Times.  Meanwhile, 45 percent of white women (non-hispanic) and 40 percent of Asian women are unmarried.

Why is that?  Are more and more African American men ending up in prison?  Are they seeking holy matrimony with women from other races?  Or are black women choosing to be single?

I am happy to report that I am in the 30 percent of women who are HAPPILY married---although I had to do it twice to get it

Stealing in the Name of the Lord

Posted by bamgibbs in Untagged

One of the ten commandments in the Bible tells us "Thou Shall NOT Steal", but there's at least one clergyman who says it's OK under certain circumstances and depending on where you steal from.

In a recent sermon, Father Tim Jones told his British congregation, "My advice, as a Christian priest, is to shoplift. I do not offer such advice because I think that stealing is a good thing, or because I think it is harmless, for it is neither. I would ask that they do not steal from small, family businesses, but from large national businesses, knowing that the costs are ultimately passed on to the

Tiger's Story Isn't a Racial Issue

Posted by bamgibbs in Untagged

The other day I was watching a discussion on TV about Tiger Woods and his alleged infidelity.  One of the commentators said the media coverage of this incident could cause a racial divide? My question is, why?

Tiger has never truly embraced his African-American heritage.  As a matter of fact, when he was on Oprah, he said he didn't like being identified as "black" and came up with his own name:  Cablinasian---as in Caucasian-black-Indian-Asian.

Tiger has also been criticized for not doing anything to help up and coming black golfers make the PGA Tour.  It's called lending a helping hand--or

Nike Says Just Do It and Tiger Did

Posted by bamgibbs in Untagged

The other night on Larry King, Donny Deutsch (from the big Idea on MSNBC) said the infidelity scandal involving  Tiger Woods will only make him seem more human and thus even more desirable as an endorser. I'd like to know how can that be.  Are we supposed to just forgive a man who publicly told us how important his marriage was to him and how his wife was the love of his live---his true soulmate----while he was secretly going behind her back and having affairs?  How does that really make him more human and desirable to advertisers?

Deutsch also said Tiger hasn't done anything that at least 50

Noisy Sex Gets a Conviction

Posted by bamgibbs in Untagged

I think you and I will agree that it's a good thing when a husband and wife can really turn each other on at midlife, right? But should your neighbors have first hand knowledge of what's going on in your home?

It seems as though a 48-year-old baby boomer woman from the UK was convicted for making too much noise during her love-making sessions with her husband. The noise was so bad that everyone from the neighbors to the postman heard their escapades.

A next door neighbor of the couple told the court she was frequently late for work because she overslept having been awake most of the night

Oprah Does it Her Way

Posted by bamgibbs in Untagged

When the queen of Daytime TV announced recently that she would end her show on September 9, 2011 after 25 years on the air, it came as no surprise to me. I actually knew this information several months ago---thanks to an interview I did with a woman who spent a year on the Oprah Show back in 2006. Lisa Bradley told me back in May that Oprah was ending her show in 2011 and she said it again when she spoke as the Luncheon Keynote Speaker for the kick-off of our Boomer Diva Nation Conference just last month.

For a quarter of a century, Oprah has introduced us to some of the most interesting
