North Carolina Governor: The Pimp

Posted by bamgibbs in Untagged

This morning the governor of the state I currently reside in endorsed Barack Obama's opponent for President. I was informed he was going to do this last night during an Obama Rally on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus.

People who attended the rally were encouraged to call up the governor's office and express their disappointment. (I have yet to make the call). Am I disappointed that Governor Michael Easley chose not to endorse Barack Obama? Yes, of course. But I am not outraged because I understand he made a decision based on his own conscience and not the will of his constituents. He, like the

The Obama Campaign in North Carolina

Posted by bamgibbs in Untagged

During the 25 years I was a working journalist, I wasn't permitted to outwardly show my allegience to  any one political candidate. I was told I had to remain fair and impartial.  Funny, coming from  a medium that is anything BUT fair and impartial.

Well, I have to say I did oblige (publicly).  But now that I am no longer in the "public eye" I can do and say what I want about politics---or anything else for that matter.  Today, I decided to go out and volunteer for the Obama campaign.  Following our 30 minute training session, I was paired up with a partner and we went canvassing specific

I Met a Nice Young Black Man Yesterday

Posted by bamgibbs in Untagged

I'm not going to lie. It took me by surprise! Why? Because I have come in contact with more than my share of disrespectful, "you dis' me and I'll kill you" show me your drawers young black men everywhere I go.

But this young man was different. I was in the Duke Clinic to accompany my daughter for a doctor visit. I guess I looked lost because this young man asked me if he could help me. I told him where I was going and he proceeded to direct me. He did so with enthusiasm and was so articulate. Now, you know if "certain" people call us "articulate" some of us accuse them of being racist. After

Star Jones Getting a Divorce

Posted by bamgibbs in Untagged

For those ofyou who said it would NEVER last--you were right. Star Jones has filed for a divorce from her husband of three years, Al Reynolds.

In a statement to Entertainment Tonight, Star said, "Several years ago I made an error in judgment by inviting the media into the most intimate area of my life. A month ago I filed for divorce. The dissolution of a marriage is a difficult time in anyone's life that requires privacy with one's thoughts."

Is there anyone reading this who thought it would last? This brings me to a point. Women who reach middle age shouldn't be so eager to get married

The Media Stirring Up the Democratic Primary Pot

Posted by bamgibbs in Untagged

As a former journalist who has seen her share of questionable decisions made in a newsroom, I was glad to finally get out of the business and start living a stress-free, no more breaking news kind of life.

But then when I look at the news, I wonder if I made the right decision.

I said I wouldn't blog about the presidential primary because I haven't been following it all that much and there are enough people blogging who are doing a great job at keeping me informed when I want to be.

Today, however, I'm throwing in my two cents. I don't know about you but I am sick to death of the media's
