GEEK Info-Lap top Buyer’s Note, “ExpressCards”

Posted by customer77 in Untagged

Express Cards are basically smaller, faster, next generation PCMCIA (cardbus) ports and can be found on many newer systems.

NOTE: The ExpressCard slot is designed only for ExpressCards. It does NOT support PC Cards (PCMCIA Type II). If you have PCMCIA Type II cards consider buying a new laptop with that port availability or An ExpressCard to PCMCIA Adapter now available over the Internet.

No to your question my friend, ExpressCards will not work in your Laptop PC Card slot.

Happy computering.

A Digital Dilemma

Posted by customer77 in Untagged

the following two views on your compter as a means of self-incrimination were voiced this week in a criminal case: BOUCHER VS. THE UNINITED STATES OF AMERICA

Orin S. Kerr, an expert in computer crime law at George Washington University, said that Boucher lost his Fifth Amendment privilege when he admitted that it was his computer and that he stored images in the encrypted part of the hard drive. "If you admit something to the government, you give up the right against self-incrimination later on," said Kerr, a former federal prosecutor.

Lee Tien, senior staff attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a civil liberties group, said encryption is one of the few ways people can protect what they write, read and watch online. "The last line of defense really is you holding your own password," he said. "That's what's at stake here."

One may want to consider adding CryptoHeaven or  PGP, Pretty Good Protection to their computer for free after concidering the above case. Just some food for thought.

Sony's Blu-ray Wins

Posted by customer77 in Untagged

Fears of a deteriorating U.S. economy and falling DVD industry sales helped drive Warner Bros's decision to back Sony's Blu-ray next generation DVD format exclusively, a top executive told Reuters on Monday.

Warner's decision is seen cementing Blu-ray's victory in what could possibly be the last physical format for movies and TV shows as technology and Internet companies race to build online distribution channels, according to Citigroup analyst Tony Wible.

A 2007 decline in DVD sales, which account for half of Hollywood's profits, and anticipated further declines in 2008 sped Warner's decision making process.

Merrill Lynch said on Monday the United States had entered its first full blown recession in 16 years.

TIPS ON PUMPING GAS (REPOST)

Posted by customer77 in Untagged

I don't know what you are paying for gasoline.... but here in California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon.

Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades.

We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons.
Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role. A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed,
