Men Stepping Up to the Plate

Posted by empowerachild in Untagged

I witnessed  an exciting event yesterday!  I was sitting in my car in my drive way meditating and just taking a breath of relief from a very hectic day.  I often need to meditate for a moment after servicing y'our' youth at-risk.  I like to make sure my mind is clear and my heart is relaxed, and there is a smile on my face  before going in the house to deal with my own 3 teenagers.   A young man whom I see walking the street daily, he must be about 19 or 20 years old.  Of course his pants sag, he is up to nothing, and his hair is uncombed.  I always make sure I speak to this young man and

Don't give up on them!

Posted by empowerachild in Untagged

This blog is written in response to a recent coversation I had with a group of  colleagues of mixed gender, age groups, and cultures.  Y'our' children hold a very special place in my heart.  They are a delight and it gives me great fulfillment to work with them.  Each assignment which God gives me provides me with new insight into their development and their needs.   My experiences with y'our' children provide for me reflective processes which helps in researching their needs and investigating new ways to open their minds to learning.

As I reflect on the last twenty five years of my life as

Whose Minding the Children?

How can fathers detach so easily?

And who's minding the children?

And who's minding the children?

Where are the fathers who plagiarize God's name?

And who's minding the children?

Who really cares?

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this video

I live in the south suburban area of Chicago.  I work on the southside of Chicago.  The two areas are not different in any way.  It sickens me to have to admit that this video clip resembles the life of many young people with whom I know and service.  I was trying to get away from it.  All I want to do is write.  I hate to turn the news on at night for fear I will see a face of another young person gunned down or beat to death by his or her peers.  I leave work early everyday in order to pick up my twins to comfort my own heart.

March on Washington, 2007

Posted by empowerachild in Untagged

The next display of protest being planned by Warren Ballentine, www.thetruthfighter.blogspot.com, is a March on Washington. The 2007 March on Washington is being planned and will take place on November 16, 2007. If you want to participate in the march and want to ride a bus with other protestors, call 877-626-4651. Remember that each generation must take a stance. Our children need to experience democracy at work. You can be a part of history. You can help to make a change.

Lest We Forget, "those who ignore the past are bound to repeat it."

12 Days Til the BlackOut

Posted by empowerachild in Untagged

I support Mr. Ballentine in his efforts. It is about time  someone took the initiave and took action.  I commend Mr. Ballentine for stepping up to the plate to not only talk about these issues, but to also take steps to do SOMETHING about it.  However, I think these are issues of great concern for not only African Americans but ALL America’s citizens, no matter the race, color, religion, or creed.   They affect the civil rights of all of us, each American citizen.  The November 2, Blackout is an excellent opportunity of all the nation’s people to come together and force our  government's

African American Postage Stamps At-Risk?

Posted by empowerachild in Untagged

I was listening to Pastor John Hannah and his co-host Angela Martin on gospel radio am1390 this morning and heard this news.  According to them, the African American U.S. postage stamp series is in jeapordy of being discontinued by the end of the month.  The reason being, we are not purchasing them.

Has anyone seen anything in writing, if so, please share any written information regarding this issue please share.  I did a brief search of the station from which I heard the news and the US Postal service to no avail.

In the mean time, the African American community has until the
