My daddy was assassinated too

Posted by empowerachild in Untagged

Early one morning long before the break of dawn, I woke up from a seemingly restful sleep.  I tossed and turned untl I was too irriated by my thougts to toss or turn again.  I was not willing to give up sleep to go to my computer and pour my thought onto the page.  Nevertheless, my thoughts forced me up, reluctantly,  and before I knew it, my fingers were pounding away at the keys.  This is what came out.

It was an era of assassinations. Black society was being assassinated. The Black man was assassinated. Malcolm X was assassinated. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. Even the

I want to write

Posted by empowerachild in Untagged

In my reading this week, I read that Alex Haley fought depression so great that he contemplated suicide because he wasn't making a decent living doing what he did best....WRITE.
I have been unemployed for a year,  too long....to alleviate my growing despondecy and to make myself feel useful.  I poured my heart into a new website where I was supposed to be selling Nature Sunshine Products.  Today, I am not despondent.  I am encouraged by words I have read and words I have shared, though I am no Alex Haley....he touched the lives of so many.
As I began to develop my site, I

The Successful Entrepreneur

Posted by empowerachild in Untagged

Success is to accomplish something that you desire or something you have tried or experienced. Success is a habit just as how you feel about yourself is also a habit. Learn to set goals. The ability to follow through and complete projects will help you reach your goals easier. Completing what you start, completing projects, and reaching goals also builds self-confidence and self-esteem.

These things remind you that you have some control of your life. Completing what you start also gives you the chance to experience what it feels like to be successful. When you practice success, you

Separate But "Unequal"

Posted by empowerachild in Untagged

It is times like this I wonder how many of us realize that we need God. For the past two weeks I have been disturbed by the June 28 decision by the Supreme Court. Instead of blogging on the topic as I wanted to so badly, I decided to just wait and see what community uproar would develop. I refrained from exploding and responding in my blogs in the emotional and passionate voice of a mad Black woman.

I am not at all discouraged by the minor community response this ruling created amongst not only the African American Community, but others who worked for civil rights as well. I waited

Then...why are our children still being left behind?

Posted by empowerachild in Untagged

Regardless of where they live, as a whole, our schools are not preparing our children for adult life.  They don't have adequate job skills, they can't communicate orally or written.  Our schools are not strong educational institutions.  Most have skills so limited, I fear for them as they are pushed in the adult world.

Yes, some children excell, but upon a close examination, how many succeed compare to those that don't.  I spent several years assisting college students write basic compositions and simple research papers.  It made me cringe when I read some of those papers.  As think

Our Children Still Can't Read

Let’s Read America!

Show”   Our Children Reading

“Our people perish for lack of knowledge” Hosea 4:6.

Though wisdom comes from God and understanding comes by experience, knowledge comes from books.  Children mimic what they see.  Encourage your child to read by example. Purchase a book today for you and your child.  Start being a good example and read.  “Show” your child how important it is to read!
