After the two recent NYPD shootings I thought of this funny short film by film maker Michael Moore on how a black man can survive an encounter with the police especially the NYPD by turning is his black wallet for a bright orange one or already pretending to be dead. The Little Rock Nine who in 1957 became the first black students at an all-white Central High School in Little Rock, Ark. have now been honored with a commemorative coin. You can see a picture of the coin below and learn how you can purchase it by clicking the link below. The coin cost $39 but I get the feeling that because it probably wont be wanted as much ( right now ) as other coins and very few are being made it will soon be worth a lot more.
First let's take a minute to remember ALL of America's war dead and wounded on this upcoming Memorial Day. Then let's reflect on the sad fact that African American men who put themselves in harms way for THEIR COUNTRY still face discrimination when seeking the health care that they are guaranteed. Now as a former soldier I know what a joke the VA Hospitals can be and it's hard for anyone to get just plain satisfactory care there. First let me thank LTH reader Nashieqa Washington for bringing this story to my attention. In what sounds like the plot of a bad science fiction movie where the Nazi's took over the world from 1929 to 1974 North Carolina alone LEGALLY sterilized over 7600 people. 60% of whom were poor black women. These women went in for abortions or were victims of rape and in many cases had no idea what had been done to them until they tried to have children. These women were victims of so called Eugenics Laws that were popular at the time. Gee I wonder why this is not in any history books? Click link |
