On This Day In 1915, Author, Activist And Church Organizer, Henry McNeal Turner, Died At Age 82.

Turner Was Born Free, In Georgia In 1834. Instead Of Being Sold Into Slavery, He Was Sent to Live With A Quaker Family. He Taught Himself To Read And Write.

Turner Was An Outspoken Bishop Of The African Methodist Episcopal Church And The First African American Chaplin To Serve In The U.S. Army.

A Strong Supporter Of The African Colonization Movement, Turner Called For A Separate Black Empire And Encouraged Blacks To Return "to the land of our ancestors" And To "give the world, like other race varieties, the benefit of our individuality."

He Founded A.M.E. Churches In Sierra Leone And Liberia, Both African Colonies For Former Slaves. He Also Established The International Immigration Society.

During Reconstruction Turner Was Elected To The Georgia House Of Representatives But Denied Admission. In A November 3, 1868 Letter, Regarding The Denial Of His Seat, Turner Wrote:

"You may expel us, gentlemen, but I firmly believe that you will someday repent it. The Black man cannot protect a country if the country doesn't protect him; and, if tomorrow, a war should arise I would not raise a musket to defend a country where my manhood was denied."

Turner Was Considered "Radical" For His Time. He Was A Fiery Orator Who Preached On Issues That Made Him Controversial In The Eyes Of White And Some Black Americans. One Such Sermon Dealt With The Ethnicity Of

On this day I'm just tired of posting sad stories about missing women or worse yet women found dead. Just looking for stories to post is just downright depressing especially when the pictures of young girls come up.   So today I am posting this great story about a young black girl from Pennsylvania  found alive. Click the link below to read the details:

Philadelphia police chief Charles Ramsey went on local TV in Philadelphia to explain the recent police beating incident and to ask everyone to wait for the investigation to run it's course. He explains some of the events preceding the beatings. He neither defends or attacks his officers although he says he is not proud of what he saw.

Obama Wins BIG in NC

Posted by bamgibbs in Untagged

Despite the fact that North Carolina’s Governor went against the grain and endorsed Hillary Clinton, it was Barack Obama who came out the big winner during Tuesday’s Primary election.

The numbers are beyond impressive!  Obama won a lopsided victory by more than 200,000 votes.  With 99 percent of the votes counted:

Barack Obama      887,186

Hillary Clinton      654,484

What is even more astonishing is the fact that nearly 1.5 million votes were cast (by Democrats) in the race.  According to the NC Board of Elections, there are 2,633,502 registered democratic voters (as of 5/7/08)

Never in the history of NC voting has there ever been a turnout like this.  Yes, Obama overwhelmingly won the black vote, but he clearly crossed over racial lines and received a significant number of white votes as well.  (The media’s not talking about that!)

Even though I’m not a fan of FOX News, they reported some interesting statistics:

74% of voters with college degrees voted for Obama

56% of voters with no degree voted for Obama

69% of first-time voters voted for Obama

61% of Obama voters were under 30 (my daughter was one of them).

Obama received 92% of the black vote

Obama received 61% of white women

So there you have it.....
