Black America Rising in the Age of Obama

The reality is beginning to set in following the historic election on November 4th.

I too have joined in the two most common reactions to Barack Obama's success. The first, "I didn't think I would see this in my lifetime." The second reaction is, "What do we do now?" Both of these are questions rooted in our "Victim Mentality."   We need to emerge from this mindset and move to a new mindset based on what I describe as a "coalition of success" based upon overlapping self-interests.

Both of these reactions are lingering effects of our 300+ years of slavery in this country. First, the institution

The Vote Heard Around the World - Just Sayin

Barack Hussein Obama is President-elect of the United States of America. Rejoicing overflows hearts and streets the world over. Change has come to America; it is a bright new day in a shiny new world.

Dictionary.com defines change first as: (v) to make the form, nature, content, future course, etc., of (something) different from what it is or from what it would be if left alone: There is no doubt we have achieved this change. America will most certainly be different under Mr. Obama's leadership than it has been under Mr. Bush's or would be had we elected John McCain. The door is open; what

This election has been one of those experiences that history may define as "once in a lifetime." It is not often that we get to utter those words. How does an event or occurrence meet this definition? Like the occurrence of a perfect storm, events come together in an historic time, place and importance -- and we are fortunate to be there at a moment in history that others will remember and reflect on for a long time to come. One observation that has been made by many voters in this election is, "I didn't expect to see this in my lifetime."

They were speaking about an African American running

Obama vs. McCain -- 3 days to go. The stakes leave no room for passive support.

This Presidential campaign has demonstrated that politics is not a game for the faint-hearted.  Many of us are anxious, fearful, nervous -- but hopeful and prayerful of a winning outcome for Barack Obama.

Because of his brilliant organizing, the possibility of an Obama victory is palpable. Because of the racism of this country and the strong reactionary elements of the general population, the threat of a McCain victory is only too real.

Voting for Barack Obama is not enough. Through November 4, 2008 we need to put all our energy into getting out the vote to elect Obama and defeat McCain.

"Don't

Obama vs. McCain -- 4 days to go. Be Prepared, and Conquer the Lines.

Everywhere we look, there are long lines of voters participating in this historic election. People are waiting 2, 3, ,4 and sometimes up to 6 hours.  That is a long time to stand around without a plan.  I received this helpful advice from Colorofchange.org that will help you to be prepared when you go to vote.  This election is too important to let anything turn you around.  Here are a few things to keep in mind to make sure you successfully cast your vote, and to help others do the same.

Be Prepared, and Conquer the Lines.

We can't let long lines stop anyone from voting. There are several

Electoral MapWe have seen this movie before -- or at least something like it.  In the final days of the Democratic Primary Campaign, the news pundits at CNN rolled out the "majic map."  In the first version of this movie, there were endless combinations of potential strategies need to defeat Barack Obama.  The conclusions drawn were that his oponent -- Hillary Clinton -- needed to win every contest remainining.  Then , every contest PLUSS some Super Delgates would have to change their support of Obama.  Then the FUD strategy -- Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt.

We are now seeing this movie play out all over

Obama vs. McCain -- 6 days to go. The Obama Closing Argument.

For thirty minutes on Wednesday evening Barack Obama demonstrated his understanding of the challenges of te American people, and provided a glimpse of how he would lead our country -- with compassion, and confidence in a bold vision of restoring American dignity, jobs, and leadership in the world.  Many were  brought to tears, as they realized how far we have come and how close we are to a historic conclusion t this race.

Here is an excerpt from Barack Obama's closing argument.

Obama vs. McCain -- 7 days to go. Redistribution of wealth.

I'm fed up and can't take it anymore!

My experience is that desperate people are dangerous -- to themselves and to others.  The McCain campaign has just taken me to my limit with this redistribution of wealth thing.  One of the double-edged swords of the Information Age is fact-checking.  However, there is a twist.  Depending upon who is checking the facts, there is a different version of the truth.  We all want to believe the best of the candidate we ae supporting, so we agree with "facts" that support our perceptions, and we ignore "facts" that  disagree with our opinions.

I was so outraged
