There is an old song with the line, "Let's get it all out in the open." I keep hearing Bobby Blue Bland, but it could be Johnny Taylor. Any of ya'll know? Anyway,...I've gone from troubled to angry and just a little bit skeered ya'll. Can somebody please clarify for me just who the... we have become? Not just as black folks but as human beings. Just who was it, which god, that delivered the call to manifest hate, inequity and hypocrisy? Ya'll do me a favor? If you have a mirror handy, please go get it. I want to ask you a couple of questions, and I want you to be able to look into your
In my life there have been two periods of abject misery. Both occurred when I "should" have been on top of the world. The first time I fell into a serious funk was when I was 22 years old and had just accomplished what I'd been groomed for since childhood. I was a brand spanking new college graduate with a BA in print journalism--yet I was wretched. Here's the thing, I'd been so involved with passing the classes etc, that I didn't give too much thought as to what I'd use the degree for or much else for that matter. Wow! It has been since July that I have written on Izania! I can't believe it. That must mean that business is doing good or I don't have a life. I must say that I have been working diligently with a local women's ministry and trying to get past my church's women's day event. (which is this weekend) Ladies and gentlemen, I am wore out. So to play catch up: My oldest son start high school at one of the IB schools (preparing for college schools) they are strict on who gets in. So, he's there and playing football AGAIN. We have been a football family with him since he was 6. My youngest started
We all recall the famous words from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech. . . "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." It has often been asked if this historic campaign is the fulfillment of Dr. King's dream. As we move ever closer to November 4th, 2008, it may be worthwhile to reflect on the actions of each candidate and examine how those actions reflect the content of their character. A recent TV commercial makes the statement, "Adversity doesn't develop
It is really interesting to see how Barak Obama is being framed by the media and political pundits at this convention. For me, this demonsrates just how difficult it is to move towad a post racist society. In spite of so many indicators that validate his success in leading the change so desparately eeded in thi country, there are continuing questions that ask, "Do we really know this candidate?" Michelle Obama and Ted Kennedy were inspirational last evening. But the continued commentary remarks about how the voters "don't know Barack Obama or Michelle Obama" are red herrings. Black people
