The Vote Heard Around the World - Just Sayin

Barack Hussein Obama is President-elect of the United States of America. Rejoicing overflows hearts and streets the world over. Change has come to America; it is a bright new day in a shiny new world.

Dictionary.com defines change first as: (v) to make the form, nature, content, future course, etc., of (something) different from what it is or from what it would be if left alone: There is no doubt we have achieved this change. America will most certainly be different under Mr. Obama's leadership than it has been under Mr. Bush's or would be had we elected John McCain. The door is open; what

We Have a Black Prez, Now Do You Believe in the USA?

I have to admit something here.  Yes, I voted for Barack Obama and yes I fully believe in his ability to lead this country.  Further prior to election day I believed Barack Obama would win fair and square.  However, I didn't believe that today we'd be celebrating this historic, monumental victory.  To be honest, I was prepared for an even bigger fight.  I thought today and the next few days would be spent recounting votes, investigating fraudulent voting activities on and on and on...

Ultimately I believed in President-elect Obama, but I had no faith whatsoever in this country. None. Even as I

Obama vs. McCain -- 4 days to go. Be Prepared, and Conquer the Lines.

Everywhere we look, there are long lines of voters participating in this historic election. People are waiting 2, 3, ,4 and sometimes up to 6 hours.  That is a long time to stand around without a plan.  I received this helpful advice from Colorofchange.org that will help you to be prepared when you go to vote.  This election is too important to let anything turn you around.  Here are a few things to keep in mind to make sure you successfully cast your vote, and to help others do the same.

Be Prepared, and Conquer the Lines.

We can't let long lines stop anyone from voting. There are several

Obama vs. McCain -- 29 days to go. "What more could we have done?"

My wife and I have been engaged in the Obama Campaign since early in the Primaries.  We have canvassed out neighborhood, we have made phone calls, we have hosted parties, we have volunteered at rallies.  One of the things that has characterized the effort of supporters of this movement is a single-minded commitment to leave no stone unturned, because no one wants to ask tomorrow, the day after the election --  "What more could we have done?"

Without this fully committed effort, there is no way a young, first term Senator from llinois could achieve the improbable -- to win the Democratc Party

Why I've Never Voted Before

My name is Ryan E. Poole. I was born in 1971 in Ann Arbor Michigan (GO BLUE :) and I am a 37 year old African American male now living in Huntsville, AL. I lived in Michigan with my mother until I was 10 years old. As part of the first wave of Generation X’ers growing up in the north, I rarely experienced what I call racism. From 1st to 4th grade, I had to ride the bus 20 or 30 miles across town by myself in order to attend a fairly integrated private Christian school. Because I attended a church sponsored school, politics was rarely the subject of a lesson. I honestly cannot even

Obama vs. McCain -- 45 days to go. Race, age, gender are taboo in election

Roland MartinIn a CNN Commentary, Roland Martin puts race, age, and gender on the table.  We identified race as the "elephant in the room" in a previous blog.  With these observations, Martin lays out the full spctrum of biases tht might affect how we vote.

It's wonderful to talk about the economy, immigration, the war in Iraq, health care and education, but we can't be naïve to the reality that when voters go into that voting booth, they will, as one person told me during an interview, "vote with their tribe."

We are seeing remarkable bias playing strongly in this election. Exit-polling data in the
