Inland Empire Jazz Festival Charity Weekend

UrbanLyfeStyles Media is proud to introduce the 2nd Annual Inland Empire Jazz Festival Charity Weekend

Ontario, CA- The second annual Inland Empire Jazz Festival (IEJF) on August 22-24, will be filled with three exciting days and nights of music, charity fundraising and community activities. The Festival has a purpose to help define the word "community" through its various partnerships with local charities and merchants and by bringing World Class, Regional and local known talent to an Inland Empire stage.

The Inland Empire Jazz Festival Charity Weekend is giving back, with the gift of music to its community members with disabilities. On Friday August 24th at Guasti Park, we will kick off the weekend's events with "Celebrate Community Day...Voyage through Music." The event will cater to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities from learning to health and their families. Organizations are encouraged to participate in this magical day dedicated to individuals with disabilities. Unite with us and celebrate their voyage into music and laughter. There will be local jazz talent, celebrity guest appearances and entertainment to bring community members together on this voyage. The day will be filled with family activities created for all ages and special fun for the Inland Empire's developmentally disabled population.

Here is an excerpt from our newly published blog. We are expanding rapidly and advertising spots are filling up quickly.

"The opportunities for advertisers and featured guests of the magazine are enormous!" states Kimi Rhochelle, publisher of Urban Lyfestyles Magazine.  "We are so excited about these expansions and joint ventures because it allows the ethnic businesses, churches and organizations to reach a broader and wider market.  In fact, several areas of the magazine are booked all the way until August 2008.  This included Beauty/Health, Gospel, and soon Finance.  Businesses in these industries that want to be featured in the magazine need to secure their spot now for later issues in 2008 and all of 2009 year."

Apologizing for Being Black

We have to quit apologizing for being Black.

As I listen and read about the challenges we face as Black people, I am amazed that each step we take forward is accompanied by at least one apology for Black unity. We have to quit doing that. Perhaps we are affected by post traumatic stresses of slavery, or suffering identity crises, or feeling guilty about our “affirmative action position,” or feel we are the undeserving beneficiary of a set-aside program, or that we don’t belong and just got over because of a handout. Whatever the case, we need to examine our situation and formulate a way to move more of us forward without apology.

Among the factors militating against our unity are the countless apologies. We don’t want to seem to be too militant; we don’t want to be accused of reverse discrimination, or racism; we don’t want to seem ungrateful to our mainstream supporters; we don’t want to appear to be separatists; we don’t want to be accused of the same bias of our oppressors; we must treat others equal, even though we are treated unfairly. Often we make these apologies in subtle ways that we don’t even recognize, and therefore, our progress is limited. Instead of aggressively pursuing gains, we apologize for asking for too much, and make exceptions for the high achievers. So, when Blacks make progress in corporate America, they don’t aggressively seek to mentor and develop other Blacks. They view themselves as “first achievers” and as exceptions, not as
