The countries of Senegal & The Gambia are boasting with friendliness and hospitality. The word "Teranga" is Senegalese for ''hospitality' and is a word that you will hear resonating throughout your visit.

This historical festival began in 1996. It began with the effort of promoting and encouraging the reuniting of people of African Decent, residing in the Diaspora and to further discover their ancestral heritage. First conceived by the late Alex Haley, author of the famous novel and later movie, "Roots", written in the early 1970s.

Mr. Haley died in 1992 and he left a contribution and a legacy to inspire all people of African decent to trace their family history and celebrate their rich culture. This global program is a biennial event with thousands of attendees traveling from Europe, The United States of America, The Caribbean, Canada and Latin America. There will be several events to include musicians, Gambian drumming groups, exciting cultural shows, and gospel groups.. The Gambia, well known as "The Smiling Coast" is beckoning you and will welcome you with open arms and a warm embrace.
