View Full Version : "The Covenant" Energizes Black America
March 28th, 2006, 12:26 PM
The Covenant with Black America is energizing African Americans across the country. Edited by Tavis Smiley, this book is a collection of essays that plot a course for African Americans, explaining how individuals and households can make changes that will immediately improve their circumstances in areas ranging from health and education to crime reduction and financial well-being.
The Covenant is about the future. About the hope of Black youth yet unborn. About our past and the courage of our ancestors. About the present— right here and right now. The Covenant will reflect our independence, our interdependence and our interconnectedness.
Accompanying The Covenant is a blueprint for Community Organizers, Youth, Young Adults and Policy Makers. Action is the key ingredient underpinning each of the ten sub-covenants. A few weeks ago, we announced the creation of the Covenant Forum at iZania (http://www.izania.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=85). Here, concerned citizens can combine their efforts and ideas in support of the ten sub-covenants. We should all read and embrace those covenant issues that are important to each of us. Together, we can demand a response that results in a covenant relationship with America that benefits us all.
Now, iZania Market is offering our visitors and members an opportunity to purchase The Covenant at iZania Market (http://www.izaniamarket.com/auctiondetails.php?id=102806)-- for $7.99. The list price for this book is $12.00. Get this book now at a very affordable price.

I am truly energized! I have received my book, The Covenant, from the Izania Market and I am excited! Thank you Izania and Izania Market for being an active part of our community! If you have not gotten your book yet, or you know anyone that has not, please share with them Izania Market so they can purchase this awesome book.:)
I am ready to read, learn and contribute to SOMETHING that will change the lives of Black people for many years to come. I have dedicated my book and my efforts to my 4 children and the children of our future. I use the word SOMETHING because words cannot describe what we are building here because this has never been done before. Yes, it may be similar to things done in the past, but now we have the internet, more people have been born and we are in a state of mind, body, spirit and circumstance that we have never experienced before.
We are develping this for our children! We are coming together with a plan, with action and with passion for our future. Please get the book, read it and join in with Izania.com and your community to start taking action!
I also want to say, if you don't want to get involved, still get the book, read it and use it in your individual life so we can be on the same page! In my opinion, you cannot give an opinion (good or bad) about any book unless you have read it!

I have started reading my book and I wanted to post here a general comment.
The book often gives us initatives, programs and/or funds that can be started by the government. Do we realize that WE are the government?
We can start these initatives, programs and/or funds in our own local communities and connect on a national level. When the goverment starts a new ANYTHING, we the tax payers have to pay for it! Nothing is free!
Why send more taxes to the government to start these initatives, programs and/or funds, they take their cut and then realize there is not enough money for the program or they cut the programs and the money goes where the politicians want to put it. Rarely are we given tax cuts!
We have to stop this madness! As we read The Covenant and it offers things the government can do, let's stop and think if we can do this ourselves!
For example: national affordable health care
We can do this ourselves! AARP and NASE (national association for the self-employeed) are already providing affordable health care plans to their members without government handling it. You and I are not paying for it, the members are working together to offset the cost.
For example: starting funds for home ownership
We can do this ourselves! Go to your local black bank, open a saving account and start putting money in! No goverment rule or regulation can tell you what to use the money for, what type of house you have to live in nor where you have to live.
Government has restriction! People are not restricted!
Remember, we are the government! We send so much money to Washington and get so little back. Let's use our own money in hand first and then try to get more money BACK from the government. In the mean time, things are getting done without government restrictions.
Thanks for listening and keep reading!
