Ronke,
Thanks for keeping in touch from across the big pond. Dedicated efforts like those of the mayor of Jackson, Mississippi, are needed to begin to turn around the decline in urban communities -- which have become the code word for Black community.

There are more grassroots heroes than we know. The message here is, "Don't give up on the future of Black America."

Every little bit helps. Watch the news clip for a daily dose of encouragement.

No problems - we all have a common goal and that is to empower ourselves no matter where we are. It saddens me when even people from my own family say that poverty can never be eradicated from Africa - meaning Africa will always be seen as the poor, needy continent - though poverty is part of economics that is not to say that economic empowerment is not possible in the Americas, Europe and Africa. Its a matter of all doing our bit and making things happen. :-)
