View Full Version : Black Moms & Sex... about us?

Why are we the targets for sex? Is it the big booties and tits?

This is problem I face. As a webmaster and a black mom, trying to build a respectful community of Black Women and minorities, or finding anything that has to do with african american women, I get hit with **** sites ranking top 10 in search engines.

Then you have some respectable sites, but they still based on models, art, and/or just showing our stuff. When it comes to a normal site for the working class black mothers.. not many, or they are in subcategories of an all black community.

So I decided to give the good fight for a more positive look of black women, and how we should carry ourselves. But it goes against what people are looking for when the type black.. female.. something..

This site niche is for Black mothers with Home Businesses because.. well I'm a Black Work at Home Momma, but they are plenty of articles and topics here that are written by other races and men about working from home, internet marketing, and other topics so I have a lot of variety on this site. Also, it was hard to find black women who work at home, who have an interest in helping other Black moms breakin the "Hot Sexy Black Momma" stereotype.

So let me go over the idea I had for making a site for Black Work At Home Moms. Over a year ago, when I first started my home business venture, my mentor was white. She had some 30 day old prospects she let me work, and practice my posture and scripts about our business that were non-responsive. She had previous notes on the prospects in the details. Let's say, out of 100 people, I had 20 that responded back and listen about the business opportunity. What was the similarity? Of course, they were all black women. What did my mentors notes say? No response, rescheduled, call back later, child responded and said she's not there or busy. Some experts say it's their environment. Since some blacks and other low income minorities, looking for work at home, are already in debt and have bill collectors calling like crazy, or telemarketers hittin them up for newspapers, or some type of free trail offers, so of course, they think it's just another one of THOSE people. Some of them mentioned they completely forgot about the work at home thang and just screened calls and emails like everyone else. But even I was a victim to this because when I requested information about working at home, I also requested info about home loans, and thought she (my mentor) was another one of THEM FOLKS, but specifically for moms or some other type of gimmick. I didn't give it a second thought, and just pressed delete on voice and emails for about 3 weeks before I actually returned an email.

Most of the prospects were also in low income urban areas like Brooklyn, Washington D.C., Chicago, Atlanta, Compton, etc. So, was it my mentor's posture? Was it me? Neither.. it was them, and their comfort zone. Many of these factors are averaged in the ratios of prospecting in general for anyone who works from home. So should we blame the black women for being racist? Is it wrong for her to respond to her own likeness? Not really.. this is quite normal for any race, but what I disliked was, these black women we missing out on great opportunities, and the great thing about self employment opportunities, they break you from these comfort zones, and helps you become an all-out better person with no boundaries.

So, since my mentor saw what was happening, and we started talking about this problem, and finding a solution, the only conclusion we could come up with was switching our prospects around as we go. I knew she would get a better response from Sally in KY and she knew I would get a better response from Shaneeka in CA. So then I started looking for prospects specifically targeted for black women? Why?

My Ratios were higher
I was in MY comfort zone as well
I didn't want Black women to miss out!!
So, of course, from the beginning of this article, I was pissed. No wonder I get random adds, marriage proposals, and other sexual predators in my instant messenger programs. Black Mothers are covered with sex online. Not just a little bit.. But a WHOOOLE LOTTA DAMN SEX!!!! I was even told that I should make a **** site and not bother with this work at home crap, because that's where the monies at. Even in MySpace, I was just playing around with my friends, and gave myself a contest. I said, "I'm going to try to make 1000 friends by my birthday." What was my response, "Girl... you gonna have to take some pics showing your butt, then you'll get plenty of adds."

OK.. THAT'S IT... I'M ON A MISSION!

Where is this comfort zone going? Are black women more comfortable showing themselves naked for the whole world to see online, then going into a non-sexual business for themselves. And for those going into business, it's usually cosmetics, models, hair dressers, or something that has to do with the black booty... I mean body. I know we LOVE to look good and no disrespect for those industries, but in all honesty.. do we really need this type of reputation all the time?

I know this will be a hard fight to go against the NORM, but there are plenty of black females out there that feel the same way I do about Black Women Online, and I know we can overcome this.

According to an article in USA today (http://www.netscape.com/viewstory/2006/08/24/african-american-women-step-up-in-business-world), we are definitely the money makers when it comes to the black race. We have more education, more economic power, and are driven for entrepreneurship, so we need to tap into our own resources and find a solution for better growth and nurture this power.

More of us want to be home with our children as well. This is a very strong reason for many of us have home businesses. Too many black moms are working two jobs, on public aid, barely getting by, while our neglected children are running the streets, getting pregnant young, and going to jail. We want to break this cycle, and we know we can do it, because we have the power, but how we're using that power, is becoming questionable.

So what's the Mission Statement?

TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO BLACK WOMAN HAS GONE BEFORE!! Lol. Sorry..that's the sci-fi trekky in me.

But in all honesty, I would say this whole article is the mission statement, but it's a little too long for that.. so in summary:

Black Work At Home Moms is a network of black mothers, that are breaking the norm, and setting new standards for the minority women, to become independent and earn the respect we rightfully deserved. We, as a strong power of the economy with a strong voice of difference values and lifestyles, staying at home with our children to better the black community and ourselves through leadership, guidance, and wealth. We want to live healthier, happier, and more productive lives for our families, and show others how we do it, with unity and love for the black sistas.

THE END

Well.. at first... I wasn't sure if it was too bold or not. But at the same time, I wanted to stay honest, and let other's know my how and why, so they could feel comfortable with my community. So far, my SEO is really getting up there for "black moms" and I will continue on my journey.

Thanks for the support Thuso.. When I read the article for this forum, I was like, "Oh.. yes.. this is right up my alley.. LOL" :D

Congratulations on your online success!

Teach other black women to duplicate your internet marketing success. You should write a Ebook and promote it to black women. Make sure it contains links to your site. Give it away for FREE and watch it drive traffic to your website.

Just doing what i do. Helping people make money online...

Thanks.. that's in the plan for this year. Right now I'm still working on online training classes and I have the newsletter (http://www.chooseyourhorizons.com) that pretty much goes over the basics for working at home and my podcast. After a few more months of building my materials, I should have an ebook ready plus CD's with a combination of the podcasts and other audio info. ;)

Definitely an idea whose time has come ... whose time is long overdue. You've tapped into a wide open high demand market. I can tell this will give a lot of black women doors to achieve their dreams and goals who previously saw no way out.

Proud of you my Sister.

Hi Philena

First let me say, I feel for you. I know how hard it can be trying to do something you think is needed but finding it hard to get believers, and money. (clients).

From a technical point of view you spoke about how in search engines the sites that come up when looking for black women.

I looked at your titles for many of the pages on your websites, and you are not making easy for you site to come up in searchengines. YOu have no mention in your titles of " black women".

Your titles start out with "blackworkathomemoms.com". For the most part, the domain in the title is not helping you much. It would be better if you put spaces between the keywords.
black work at home moms.com

You could even take advantage, of what you say others are searching for.
How about a title such as:
<title> Black work at home moms. You don't have to have a big booty to make money online</title>

or
<title> Black Women, working from home without showing big black booties. </title>

Also, make sure to submit your site to African American Business Directory.com (http://www.AfricanAmericanBusinessDirectory.com)
