Your reference to your spiritual belief system is appropriate and adds perspective to your comments. Personally, I too am a Christian and have strived with my wife of nearly 40 years to live according to the Bible. So, I won't get into a religious discussion.

All viewpoints are welcomed. All strong, well-grounded, and open-minded individuals are welcomed to offer their opinions.

It is unfortunate that we have put this topic in terms of a "battle." Such a word has more divisive potential than unifying potential. Strong Black men and strong Black women need to act iwth URGENCY to help save our children from destruction. I personally believe this can be best accomplished in a marriage where the man and woman have a lifetime covenant relationship.

I can testify that such a relationship can accelerate our progress significantly better as partners rather than combatants. The Christian belief system is the basis of the partnership with my wife. Yours may be based on a different belief system.

The bottom line is that WE MUST COME TOGETHER AS HUSBANDS AND WIVES TO BUILD STRONG BLACK FAMILIES!

Thank you for your reply, Thuso. First, my beliefs are based and grounded totally on and in Jesus Christ and His teachings, no other system.

Battle... the word may be divisive but sometimes it seems we truly are in a battle (unfortunately). I am a true friend of the Black man and my people in general. I love my people VERY much and it hurts to see the harm we are doing to each other. There is a parallel battle going on as well...the battle among Black women. But that is yet another topic!

God has given you much wisdom and understanding. I congratulate you and your wife for a marriage of 40 years together. I grew up hoping and praying to have only one mate, a lifetime mate. However, and very sadly, it didn't happen.

As to the subject at hand, "Are Women Taking over?" I believe that "independent" women are so misunderstood many times. Speaking for myself, "independent" is the necessity to look out for me, because all I have is me. I must cater to my needs, my safety, my protection, and all that is necessary for my day to day existence, however, this is not my attitude or my actions when in a relationship. I believe in teamwork and doing what is best for US, not just me, and will glady hand over the reins of independence and headship to him. He is welcome to the "front lines" of the marriage, as I thrive on a strong man, and one capable of taking the lead. Strong men are so sexy!

While all of this is going on, this "battle," the children are suffering. I agree totally with you that we need to turn our attention to them and start building STRONG BLACK FAMILIES before it is too late.

Battle of the sexes…are black women taking over? No, I do not think so. Why? I think the statistics that Visu presented at the beginning of this forum show the effects of institutionalize racism on the black community and that is all. In other words the achievement of Black women over Black men is not base on the merit of women as a class but upon a system of white discrimination against black men.

There I have said it; it is a racial and class conspiracy against black men succeeding here in this United States of America. I hear the arguments coming about individual account ability and we make the choices that determine our lives and I say to you it is all a straw man, that we racially have faced since our ancestors were kidnapped and drag here in chains. Darwin’s survival of the fittest theory that points the finger of accountability at the slave for his capture and ignores the obvious, power imbalance between Europe and Africa or the moral depravity of a Christian slaver-Amazing Grace-, If I pull a gun on you and rob you would you not reject my argument that it is your fault because you should have stopped me. The white European dogs that rule this planet came from such mentality. Today, the obvious gun is gone, but the implied one, the imbalanced power is still there and no one, Blackman ever had a hope in hell of changing it. Welcome to Christian America.
