Default Million Man March to focus on Black Economic Activity.

Minister Louis Farrakhan is considering organizing another national march next year – the 10th anniversary of the Million Man March – to encourage African-Americans to keep a larger share of their $688 billion annual spending in the Black community. What do you think about the need for such a march?

This is a great question. I have seen speeches where he has hinted that maybe a 10th anniversary might be planned.

The first march was AWESOME and then would have been a great opportunity to IMPLEMENT some step for doing whatever our community needs. From what I understand, it was speeches and no set program on what to do when you get back home.

The only way I would support this 10th year march is if a program is put together that MEN can sign onto and implement once they return home. This program can be published online and offer some type of accountability.

It is time out for just seeing if we can get One million men together in one place. We have to take advantage of opportunities when they come and not do a march every 10 years. That in itself takes millions of dollars for travel and organization.

I commend Min. Farrakhan for the purpose of the march, it is a noble and much needed one. My fear is that Black leaders will not be able to effectively work together to design and effective economic plan. An economic plan designed to uplift predominantly Black communities is overdue.

Minister Farrakhan ws recently in Detroit for two-day symposium titled "Black Men: Taking Responsibility, a Plan of Action," sponsored by the African-American Men's Organization. His message was "unifying" and not racist, as one person atending the event commented. See the article in the Detroit Free Press, which is posted in the iZania Channels on the home page of this site www.izania.com.

The Black community in specific communities are recognizing the benfits of working together. There doesn't have to be a national movement, we need to demonstrate unity in our local communities. These successes will add up to a national movement.

Having the priveledge to attend and participate in the First Million Man March, I am glad to see there is still a vision on hope flickering in the fierce wind of apathy that still permeates our community...We as a people still are a work in progress...Let us remember that we are still uncovering ourselves from centuries of muddied information of who we are in the world and how we are suppose to be in the wolrd...As spirit driven people we must continue to awaken within us the drive to be as we were created to be...That is,as children of a magnificent Universe filled with endless possibilities that we can manifest at the appropriate moments in time...let us not forget that ours is a continual contribution towards the evolution of mankind in the Universal Plan of the Most High...We are no different than the rest of the planet...However we are endowed with such precious gifts that must be made manifest for the World of Human kind to benefit...Remember your history...It is the key to the future of our people...As it was in the beginning...So it shall be in the end...We ARE the Aboriginal people of this planet and we still GIVE freely from our hearts to all Human kind...Yet we are also the only people to be mercilessly enslaved by all members of Human kind even to this day...We are pimped by every nationalitry and made lowly by their vision...Yet we continue to prosper in spite of these attempts to belittle us as a righteous people...So onward, upward, and forever forward towards the goal set before us by the TRUE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE...THOSE WHO CREATED US IN THEIR IMAGE AND LIKENESS...FOR THEY HAVE GIVEN US A GREAT TASK...TO CONTINUE TO BE THE INSTRUMENT OF HUMANITY...SUCH THAT ALL PEOPLE LEARN THE LESSON OF HUMILITY AND CONSCIENCENESS IN THE HARSHEST OF TIMES SO THAT BENEVOLENT TIMES ARE TRULY APPRECIATED...BY EVERYONE IN A HUMBLE GRATEFUL MANNER...GIVE THANKS FOR OUR CHALLENGE TO ASPIRE TO BE A REFLECTION OF THE GREATNESS THAT SPAWNED US INTO EXISTENCE...SIDIKI

As was said earlier, I'm in favor of the MMM2 if there is an economic and urban agenda that encourages and holds the participants accountable for their action or inaction. Though the march was a beautiful thing to see, the lack of real involvement in local affairs after the brothers returned home was disheartening. I'm definitely in favor of a "call to action", especially since 10 years ago the participants were atoned.

Peace,
WandaD

I believe a Million Man March II would be beautiful, as an individual who was unable to attend the first MMM, I would be proud to attend number II; however, I would have to agree with WandaD, if there is on clear message/agenda of economic empowerment, then we have just another historical event with no true substance, other then individuals aspiring to further their own political futures. What I would like to see is: MMMII, followed by State organized rallies/meeting/discussions where community leaders who are on the frontlines are brought together to discuss the plight and needs of they communities they represent. Hopefully, from this discussion, we will be capable of educating the people within our community of the importance of economic empowerment. I guess what I am trying to say is there must be a continuation of the message beyond the one days march; there must be a system designed to filter down all the information gathered at the MMMII.

I am not sure if this makes sense, however, it’s my thoughts at the moment!

Panama, I agree with your reply. The first MMM was loosely organized, at least in upstate NY. Then, when the brothers returned, opposed to joining the already established political and community organizations, they attempted to create new ones. There really has not been a major community organizing effort since the Civil Rights Movement. So, in order to ensure success and effective follow-up after the event, a national push for community organizing should simultaneously take place.

What are your thoughts, anybody?
