It’s Black History Month and wherever you are, you should be either studying Black History, or planning to create Black History. Instead of discussing some great achievements by Black men or Black women, I’d like to discuss the great achievements that lie ahead of Africans in America.

The African-American web surfer has become a hot target for web developers and the business industry, as more web-based programs are being created with Black users in mind. Black households also continue to spend more than Hispanics, Asians or other minority households in almost every consumer product category. With this trend, many people are taking their money and their time, to the world wide web.

Dave Chappelle finally figured it out. The classic metaphor of Smokey Robinson’s Tears of A Clown, playing out on national television. Before Oprah and the whole world, he realized he had become the latest generation of Stephin Fetchit, Amos n’ Andy, and the long line of comedic buffoonery that, under the guise of comedy, made a fool of him and engrained degrading images of his race for decades to come.

As Africans in America, those of us who understand the struggle know that it is important to highlight the most courageous of us. It is important to magnify those of us who step into an arena where none of us have walked before. When one of us blazes a path, we talk about how that person has "opened a door" for others who will come later.
