MondayMover -- Emotions

As the orange light intermittently blinked, I hurried to the phone because I knew it was Nadya.  She had just arrived in Florida with her brothers, my mother, and about seven assorted and tired relatives.  I call them all cousins...just easier...I’ll clean it up later.  She was so excited as she described the train ride from DC to Miami leaving out no details.  Forty five seconds later she was crying non-stop on the phone with her mother!  She missed her.  What had I missed I wondered?

How many readers are challenged with baring their real emotions around their profession...their work?  How many would prefer to throw aside the hourly security blanket that's tightly wrapped their creative extension?  I’m certain that all one wants is to show up, perform, and be happy in/with their results.  The Pareto principle (also known as the 80/20 rule or the law of the vital few) states that, for many events, 80% of the effects come from 20% of the causes.

In business, dramatic improvements can often be achieved by identifying the 20% of activities, customers, or processes that account for the 80% of profit, results and reward.  We know that.  But already someone is feeling angry, betrayed, confused, denied, envious, or fearful and the day has just begun.  Bump the 80/20 rule.  Perhaps today is the day you modify or stop role-playing for advancement and start risking towards your benefit.  It’s Monday – you have 45s - let’s keep it moving!
